Which used cars sell first in Spain

The quick sellers are rarely exciting: a small petrol hatchback for city driving, a diesel estate with a stamped service book, a hybrid with modest mileage. First-time drivers, growing families and traders all want them, so the seller’s phone starts ringing within hours and viewings go to the earliest callers.

A search that is neither silent nor noisy

Try this order. First the hard limits: total budget, maximum kilometres, oldest acceptable year. Then distance. Stop there and run it for a few days. If no cards arrive, widen the radius or accept a slightly older year; if too many arrive, lower the mileage cap.

Trim level, colour and extras are better judged from the photo on the card than set as filters.

Telegram tricks for comparing two models

Red flags and checks on a used car

Be wary of a price well below comparable cars, a seller who is abroad and offers delivery by a transport firm after you pay, or a request for a deposit to hold a car you have not seen. Insist on seeing it in person.

At the viewing, compare the odometer with mileage recorded at earlier inspections and on garage invoices, look at wear on the steering wheel and pedals, and start the engine cold. Make sure the seller is the registered keeper on the documents and that nothing is owed on the car before you sign anything.
