Narrow AutoScout24 to the car you would buy
In the passenger car search set make and model rather than make alone. Pick a first-registration year you are comfortable with, a mileage limit, and a price ceiling a little above your budget, since private sellers expect to haggle. Gearbox and fuel filter out the wrong variants; postcode and radius keep it local. Sort newest first and copy the page address.

Be one of the three callers, not the fourth
Private sellers of a well-kept used car do not want to take call after call all evening. They talk to the first few buyers who sound genuine, agree a viewing, and the ad quietly turns to reserved. If you found the car by scrolling the evening after, you were never in that conversation.
Telegram puts the car in front of you while the list of callers is still short. Whether you ring straight away is your call; the point is that the choice is still yours to make.
Why your price filter should sit above your budget
A car listed slightly over your limit often sells for less after a conversation, especially from a private seller. Setting the ceiling a few hundred euros higher than you plan to pay shows you those cars instead of hiding them.
The opposite mistake is a filter so tight that nothing ever arrives: one exact trim, one colour, one year. Allow a span of three or four years and a sensible mileage, and you will see enough cars to compare without drowning.
What to ask the seller before you drive out
How many previous owners? Any accident damage, repaired or not? When was the last service, and when is the next HU, Germany’s roadworthiness test, due? Are the timing belt and brakes recent? If the answers sound right, propose a specific time to come, which usually lands better than opening with a lower offer.
Before you call, forward the card to a friend who knows the model. The photo, price and link travel together, so a second opinion takes a minute.
Dealer warranty versus private sale in Germany
A dealer selling to a consumer is generally liable for defects on a used car; a private seller usually excludes that in the contract. Private can be cheaper, but you carry more risk, so inspect accordingly.
At the viewing, match the chassis number with the registration certificate part II and the seller’s name with the person in front of you. Compare the odometer with service entries. Put the sale and any known faults in a written contract, and never pay a deposit for a car you have not seen.
One model loud, the fallback muted
If you are torn between two models, run two searches. Each card carries its own hashtag, and you can mute the fallback so it arrives silently. Free covers one search checked every 30 minutes; Starter at $5.99 covers five every 10 minutes; Pro at $14.99 covers twenty with the fastest checks.
❓Frequently asked questions
Will I get cars that were listed before I started?
No. The first check records what is already there; cards only come for cars added later.
Can I exclude dealers?
Yes, set the seller type to private on AutoScout24 before you copy the link.
Does the card show mileage and year?
The card has the photo, title, price and link. Mileage, year and equipment are in the ad, one tap away.
Do you check the car’s history?
No. We report new listings; the inspection, paperwork and test drive are up to you.
Is every check guaranteed to reach AutoScout24?
No. We send what a check finds as new and retry on the next check.
Can I use email as well?
Yes. Both Telegram and email are available on every plan, and one search can use both.
