Telling a first edition from a reprint before you pay

Ask for the photos that settle it. For a French comic album, the title page and the back cover, where the edition is printed. For a record, the label and the matrix number scratched near the centre. For a watch, dial, movement and any papers. For pottery, the mark underneath.

Honest sellers send an extra photo without fuss. Refusals, a sudden rush or a request to pay off the platform are reasons to step back. Never send a deposit for a piece you have neither seen nor received through a protected payment.

Where France’s cheap treasures come from

Most underpriced pieces are not posted by dealers. They come from someone emptying a family house in Normandy, laying out a box of records on the kitchen table and asking a round number to be done with it. They do not know which pressing they hold and they answer the first polite message.

Seeing that card in Telegram the evening it goes up is what separates owning the record from seeing it marked as sold. Write a short, friendly message, say you can collect or pay for tracked delivery, and ask one specific question that shows you know the piece.

Misspellings are where the grails hide

Private sellers write as they speak: „vinyl“ without the e, the illustrator’s name instead of the series, brand names spelled by ear. Give a long-sought piece two or three searches covering those variants, plus one on „lot“ and the category for the undescribed boxes.

Free covers one search every 30 minutes, Starter at $5.99 five every 10 minutes, Pro at $14.99 twenty with the fastest checks.

Your chat as a price record

Cards stay in the chat. Tap a search’s hashtag and you see every piece it found with its asking price, on your phone or desktop, a quick reference when you wonder whether a price is fair.
