Collectors’ classic error: browsing the theme only on Sundays
Many collectors set aside one evening a week to look through Catawiki. The trouble is that a lot listed early in the week is already late in its auction by Sunday, with watchers piling up and no time left to ask the seller about a defect. Worse, a lot listed on Monday and closed on Saturday is never seen at all.
A card on the day the lot appears removes that blind spot. You glance at it, and if it fills a gap, you have days to study it.
Pieces that collectors chase hardest
Complete sets, first editions, boxed toys in good condition and pieces by a known designer draw the most interest, and they usually do so towards the end of an auction. Seeing them at the start gives you a quiet window to compare with past sales and decide what the piece is worth to your collection, not to the room.
Your collection’s Telegram chat
Each theme has its own hashtag, so stamps, vinyl and comic books can live in one chat. Mute a broad theme so it arrives silently, keep the one you are completing loud. Forward a card to a fellow collector or a club group for an opinion. The same chat opens on Telegram Desktop for a closer look at the photos.
Checks before you commit to a bid
Read the condition report and zoom into the photos for repairs, missing parts or reproductions. Look at the seller’s rating. Add Catawiki’s buyer’s fee and the shipping to your bid, and consider import charges if the piece comes from another country. Then set a limit.
