Plug it in before you pay: a console checklist
Connect to a TV, load a game and sign in to the online service to make sure the console is not banned. Match the serial on the box to the one on the unit. Try the HDMI port, the disc drive if it has one, and both sticks on every controller for drift.
Ask if a Switch has been modded; modded units can be cut off from online play. The seller’s account should be removed. A request for a delivery deposit on a suspiciously cheap console is a reason to stop.
Bring a cable and a game you know works. A seller who will not let you test on a TV, or wants to meet somewhere with no socket, has answered your question already.
