A sensible checklist before you hand over cash

For a car seat, ask for the manufacturing year and whether it was ever in a crash; seats are meant to be replaced after one. Ask for a photo of the approval label. For a pram, fold and unfold it yourself and test the brakes.

Meet in a public place or at the seller’s entrance and pay after you have seen the item. A request for money upfront for something you have not seen is a reason to move on.
