Faster flat hunting in Germany with immowelt email alerts

A German rental application is a laptop job with a PDF attached, so the new flats from your immowelt search should arrive in the inbox you send it from.

3 steps

Set up in a minute

  1. Search on Immowelt, sort by newest

Set up the rental search on immowelt

Choose rent and flat, then a city, district or postcode. Enter the highest rent you can carry, a minimum number of rooms and minimum space, and skip extras you could live without. Order results by most recent and copy the page address.

  2. Copy the link, paste it into mxsender

Add the link to MXSender and choose email

Paste the address, select email and name the search so you recognise it in the subject line, for example Hamburg Altona 2 rooms. You can add Telegram to the same search later.

  3. New listings land in your inbox

Receive one mail per check with new flats

When a check turns up new rentals, a single mail lists them all, each with photo, rent and link. Quiet checks send nothing. An unsubscribe link sits in every mail.

The mistake: applying with an incomplete file

Many flat hunters see a good ad in time and then lose an hour digging out payslips. In German cities with tight supply, managers tend to invite the first complete applications, and an enquiry that promises documents later rarely makes the list.

So prepare once: ID, recent payslips or proof of income, a SCHUFA report, a rent-arrears clearance from your current landlord and a self-disclosure form, merged into one PDF. When the alert mail arrives, reply through immowelt with three facts, two viewing times and the file ready to send.

Reading German rent before you reply

Check how the rent is built. Kaltmiete is the base rent, the service charges come on top, and heating may or may not be included. A Staffelmiete rises on fixed dates, an Indexmiete follows inflation. Compare flats on the total you will pay each month.

Some listings require a WBS certificate for subsidised housing. If the ad says so and you have none, skip it.

Folders, filters and several addresses

Make one search per district rather than one for the whole city, and let a mail rule sort each into its own folder. After a couple of weeks the folders show what rents really look like where you want to live.

Free and Starter mail one address, Pro up to three, which helps when two people apply together. Your provider decides where mail lands, so after the first match check spam or promotions, mark it as wanted and add the sender to your contacts.

Pick a check rhythm for your rental search

Free checks one search every 30 minutes. Starter, $5.99, checks five searches every 10 minutes. Pro, $14.99, checks twenty with the fastest checks. immowelt also has its own saved search with notifications; MXSender lets you choose the channel and the rhythm.

Never transfer money for a flat you have not seen

Deposit and first rent are paid after the viewing and the signed lease. Treat a travelling landlord who wants an advance by email, or rent far below the local level, as a reason to stop writing.

❓Frequently asked questions

Will I receive flats already advertised?

No. The first check stores the existing list; only flats added afterwards are mailed.

How many mails can arrive in a day?

One per check at most, and only when that check found new flats.

Can my partner get the same alerts?

Yes on Pro, which mails up to three addresses. Free and Starter mail one.

Do I need to give you my immowelt password?

No. The public link to your results page is all we use.

How do I stop once I have signed a lease?

Pause or delete the search in your account, or use the unsubscribe link in any mail.
