Renting via Kleinanzeigen: new flats in your inbox

If you write to landlords from a laptop with your SCHUFA report and payslips in the next folder, the new flats on your Kleinanzeigen search should land in that same inbox.

3 steps

Set up in a minute

  1. Search on Kleinanzeigen, sort by newest

Set up the rental search on the site

Open Immobilien, then Mietwohnungen, type a city or postcode and choose a radius around it. Add a maximum rent, a minimum number of rooms and, if you need it, a minimum living area. Provider set to Privat filters out agencies and property managers. Sort with the most recent ads first and copy the address of the results.

  2. Copy the link, paste it into mxsender

Hand it over and choose email

Paste the link into MXSender, pick email as the channel and give the search a name you will recognise in a subject line, such as Leipzig 2 rooms. Telegram can be added to the same search later if you want a faster nudge on your phone.

  3. New listings land in your inbox

    Get one mail per check

When a check finds nothing new, nothing is sent. When it finds new flats, you get one email listing all of them, each with a photo, the rent and its own link. Every mail ends with an unsubscribe link.

The mistake: checking Mietwohnungen once after work

Many newcomers to the German rental market look at the listings in the evening, write to five landlords and wonder why nobody answers. By then the private ads posted that morning already have a long queue, and landlords tend to invite from the first replies that look complete.

An alert does not write the message for you, but it moves the moment you see an ad from whenever you remember to looking to shortly after a check finds it. Free checks one search every 30 minutes, Starter (5.99 dollars) checks five searches every ten minutes, and Pro (14.99 dollars) checks twenty with the shortest gaps.

Keeping your rental paper trail in one mailbox

A flat hunt in Hamburg or Cologne can take weeks. Alerts by email sit next to your enquiries, the landlordsโ€™ replies and the viewing invitations, so one folder tells you which flat belonged to which conversation.

Email also suits the way these applications are written. You attach the SCHUFA report, three payslips, a copy of your passport and the confirmation from your current landlord that you owe no rent, all from the computer where those files already live.

What a Nachmieter ad in Germany usually means

Plenty of rentals on Kleinanzeigen are posted by tenants who are leaving and have been asked to suggest a successor. They often want an answer within days and may ask a transfer fee for a fitted kitchen or furniture. The landlord still decides, but an early, tidy application gets passed on more often.

If that kind of ad interests you, make it a second search with Nachmieter as the keyword, so its mails stay apart from the regular listings.

Warm rent, cold rent and setting your ceiling

Some landlords enter the bare Kaltmiete in the price field, others the Warmmiete including heating and service charges. If your budget is a warm figure, set the ceiling a little above your cold target and read the Nebenkosten in the ad, rather than losing a good flat to a strict number.

Red flags before any deposit leaves your account

Never transfer money for a flat you have not seen. Typical fake ads describe an owner abroad, no possible viewing, and keys that will be posted once the deposit and first rent arrive. Other signs: a rent well below the districtโ€™s usual level, a request for your passport before any contact, or a push to continue in another chat app.

In Germany the deposit is limited to three months of cold rent and is paid after the lease is signed, often in instalments. Meet the landlord, see the flat, read the contract, then pay.

โ“Frequently asked questions

Will the first email list every flat already online?

No. The first check records what is there, and later emails only contain flats posted after it.

Can my partner get the same emails?

On Pro the mails can go to up to three addresses. Free and Starter send to one address.

Does Kleinanzeigen not send alerts itself?

It does: you can save a search there and be notified. That keeps working. With us you pick the channel, and your plan decides how often your page is checked.

Do you need my Kleinanzeigen password?

No. We only read the public results page you gave us. Your messages to landlords stay in your own account.

How do I stop once I have signed a lease?

Pause or delete the search, or use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any mail.
