What retro hunters in Bulgaria actually chase

Film cameras from the socialist years, Balkanton records, enamel signs, military badges, old Bulgarian coins and banknotes, Pravets computers, heavy cut-glass sets from a grandmother’s cabinet. Sellers in Sofia, Ruse or Stara Zagora list them next to everyday clutter, often in one bundle, often priced to clear rather than to match a catalogue.

Pick one of those fields per search. A search for everything old in the country produces a stream nobody reads.

Reading a text-only Viber alert for a collectible

Because the message has no picture, the title does the work. Sellers write things like „стари монети“ (old coins) or „ретро фотоапарат“ (retro camera); learning a few such words lets you decide in a second whether to tap. The price shows as the seller entered it, in euro or leva.

If you want the photo inside the alert itself, add Telegram or email to the same search; both carry it.

Collectors who travel to fairs in Sofia or Plovdiv on weekends often run two searches: a narrow one for the field they specialise in and a loose one for house clearances in their own region. On Starter that still leaves room for three more, for cameras, badges or whatever the next obsession turns out to be.

Why the early buyer gets the bundle

Bundles priced by non-collectors are the reason this hobby is fun, and they do not last. The seller usually answers the first sensible message and stops reading the rest. Seeing the ad soon after it goes up, and asking one clear question about condition, is how you end up with the box.

Staying safe with collectible deals over chat

Ask for detailed photos before you commit: hallmarks, mint marks, shutter working on a camera. Prefer meeting in person or cash on delivery with inspection at the courier office. If someone sends you a link to „confirm a payment“ or asks for card details, stop and keep the conversation inside OLX.
