Scene: a moving-out sale in a Sofia block

A couple in Mladost are leaving for Germany at the end of the month. They list the sofa, the wardrobe and the dining set at prices meant to clear the flat, and say whoever comes first with a van takes it. By evening their phone is full of messages; they answered the second one and the deal was done before dinner.

That pattern repeats every week in every big Bulgarian city. The bargain is real; the window is short.

Reading Bulgarian furniture titles in a text alert

With text only, a few words help you decide in a second: „диван“ is sofa, „ъглов диван“ a corner sofa, „гардероб“ a wardrobe, „маса“ a table, „легло“ a bed, „подарявам“ means giving away. The price shows as the seller wrote it.

Before you load it in the van

Measure your doorway and the space at home before you go. Look at upholstery closely for stains and any sign of bedbugs, open every drawer and door, and check that a flat-pack piece comes with all its screws. Pay when it is in front of you; if a seller asks for a deposit through a link sent in a chat, step back.

Ask the seller whether the piece has to be dismantled and whether they will help with the stairs; in an older block without a lift that decides whether you need a second person. Taking a few photos of the furniture before it is moved also helps if you later discover a problem you missed in the flat.
