The common mistake: searching only in Cyrillic

Many collectors type one name, in one alphabet, and wonder why the good pieces never show up. On OLX.ua a Zenit camera may be listed as Зеніт, Зенит or Zenit, and a Raketa watch as Ракета or simply as a Soviet watch. Each variant is its own search, so make two or three for anything you truly want.

The reverse mistake is a single word like antiques. That returns everything from icons to door handles and drowns the one listing that matters. Name the object, the maker or the series, and add a minimum price so cheap accessories drop out.

What a Viber alert gives a collector

Viber has no photo card and no buttons here, so the message is text only: the title the seller wrote, the price, the link. For collectibles that is often enough. A title such as Elektronika 302 cassette deck, working, or 30 Melodiya LPs, 1970s, already tells you whether to open it.

Because the message sits next to your family and work chats, you see it without opening another app. That matters when a seller in Kharkiv or Lviv has priced a lot to move it quickly.

Copies, condition and history before you pay

Soviet medals, badges and coins are widely reproduced. Ask for clear photos of both sides with a ruler, and compare size, weight and marks with a reference. For a watch, ask for the movement; for a tape deck or radio, a short video of it working. For records, ask how the seller grades the disc and the sleeve.

Ask how the piece reached the seller. An inheritance, an old collection or a flea market find are all fine answers; a vague one is a signal. Pay through Nova Poshta with inspection at the branch rather than up front. For valuable antiques, check the rules that apply before you buy.
