Saturday morning in Pune: why the good pram is gone by noon

A family moving abroad lists a barely used stroller, a high chair and a playpen together, priced to clear the flat before the packers come. Three parents message within the hour, and the first one who calls and agrees a pickup time takes all of it.

Baby gear behaves like that across Indian cities. Children outgrow things in months, so good-condition items keep coming, but the sensibly priced ones from careful owners move fast. Seeing the ad while it is fresh matters more than any filter.

Items that are worth chasing second-hand, and one that needs care

Cots, playpens, prams, high chairs, baby carriers, walkers, ride-on toys and bundles of clothes in one size are all sensible buys used. A car seat is the exception that deserves more questions: ask whether it was ever in an accident, check the manufacture date on the label and make sure the straps and buckle are intact.

For cots, check that the slats are firm and the mattress fits snugly. For prams, fold and unfold it twice at the seller’s door and test the brake.
