What a Viber alert about a desk actually contains

Is a line of text enough to decide on furniture? More often than you might think. Sellers tend to put the essentials in the title, such as the type, the brand, sometimes the width in centimetres, and the price sits right next to it. A message reading desk, IKEA, 120 cm, with a low figure beside it, already tells you whether to look closer.

Three mistakes that make a furniture search useless

The first is searching for furniture in general. In a large city that returns an endless stream of showroom ads. Name the object instead: a chest of drawers, a bunk bed, a TV stand. The second is forgetting the price ceiling, which lets brand-new stock from shops flood the results. Setting Приватна особа helps too.

The third mistake runs the other way: a query so precise, with colour, exact width and brand, that nothing ever matches. Keep the type, the city and the price in the search, and check measurements in the listing itself.

Kitchen sets and wall units: the hidden work of moving them

Big furniture rarely travels by post, which is why local searches work best. A kitchen set or a wall unit also has to be taken apart. Ask who will do it, whether hinges, handles and shelves are all there, and whether the worktop and sink are included. A photo of the lower cabinets is worth requesting, since water damage shows up there first.

Book a cargo taxi in advance and measure your own doorway, stairwell and lift. A bargain that cannot get through your entrance is no bargain at all.

Seeing it in person: odour, joints and the photo test

On upholstered pieces, look along the seams and under the cushions. Tiny dark marks or a sweetish musty smell can point to bedbugs, and that is a reason to decline. Smoke and damp odours rarely disappear with cleaning.

Wobble cabinets and chairs to find loose joints, open the sofa bed fully and sit on several places. Hold the listing photos up against the real thing. If they differ noticeably, you owe nobody a purchase. Avoid sending money before you have seen the piece.
