The weekend-only mistake instrument hunters make

Instruments are listed when owners move house, leave for study abroad or upgrade, and none of that waits for Saturday. A digital piano in good shape or a Japanese-made guitar at a fair price in Almaty can be gone in a day, because teachers, students and gigging players all watch the same section.

A card in Telegram moves the moment you find out to the moment the ad goes up.

Searching by model, not by „guitar“

„Guitar“ brings strings, capos, kids’ toys and cheap beginner sets. Write the brand and model, or the type plus a price floor: electric guitar above a set amount, digital piano with 88 weighted keys, drum kit with mesh heads. Keep acoustic and electric in separate searches.

Sellers write in Russian and Kazakh; model names like Ibanez or Casio read the same, so they catch the most ads. Each search has its own hashtag in the chat.

Playing it before you pay

Play every string up the neck and listen for buzz, check the neck for a bow and the jack for crackle. On a keyboard, press every key and test the pedals and outputs. For an amp, play it loud for a minute. Ask about any repairs, and whether a case or power supply is included.

Pianos and drum kits are heavy, so agree on transport before paying. A rare instrument at a very low price, sold only with delivery after a Kaspi prepayment, is a reason to stop.

A Telegram chat for gear hunts and band mates

Gear hunts are often shared. A drummer in Astana looking for a kit for the rehearsal room, a guitarist after a second amp, a keyboard player who needs a stage piano: put each in its own search, and the hashtags tell everyone in the chat which card belongs to whom.
