Spring on OLX Kazakhstan: why bikes go in a weekend

Kazakhstan’s riding season is short, and demand bunches up. In April and May a fairly priced Trek, Merida or Giant in the right frame size gets messages within hours, and e-bikes and electric scooters for city commuting draw even more. By June the best offers are gone and prices drift up.

Buying in autumn, when riders sell before winter, is often cheaper, but the same rule applies: whoever writes first gets to see the bike first.

Frame size, wheel size and motor: the filters that matter

A great price on the wrong frame is no deal. Put the frame size or your height range in the query, plus the wheel size if it matters (26, 27.5, 29). For e-bikes, add the motor type or the battery capacity you want. Keep kids’ bikes and adult bikes in separate searches.

A minimum price filters out bells, locks and spare tubes. If you are open to both a regular and an electric bike, save two searches; their hashtags keep the cards apart.

What to look at on a used bike or e-bike

Ride it. Listen to the chain and gears, squeeze the brakes hard, look for cracks near welds and at the fork. On an e-bike, ask for the battery’s age and charger, check the range display, and ride up a slope to feel the motor. Ask whether the bike was ever reported stolen and whether the seller has a receipt.

Avoid paying a deposit by Kaspi transfer for a bike you have not seen, especially one sold from another city at a price well below the rest.
