Band practice, and someone else got the Strat

It happens to every guitarist who shops second-hand: a friend sends you an OLX link to a clean Squier or a Yamaha Pacifica, you open it after rehearsal, and the seller says it was sold an hour ago. Instruments at the right price move fast because many players are watching the same few models.

Humidity, necks and frets: checks for Indonesia

Tropical humidity is tough on wooden instruments. Ask for a photo down the neck to spot a bow or twist, check whether the top of an acoustic is bulging or cracked, and ask about fret wear and whether the truss rod still adjusts. Electronics in electric guitars, keyboards and pedals can corrode, so ask for a short video with the instrument plugged in.

For keyboards and digital pianos, test every key and pedal, and ask whether the adapter is original.

Bring a cable and, if you can, small headphones or an amp so you can actually hear the instrument. Meet at the seller’s place or a music shop, play it, and pay after. For an instrument shipped from another island, a joint-account service is safer than a direct transfer. Avoid sellers who want payment first and refuse a video call showing the instrument.
