Mistake one: asking OLX India for a „bike“

Most sellers in India mean a motorcycle when they write bike, so a search for that word buries the cycles you want. Start from the Bicycles section, or use cycle, MTB, hybrid, road cycle or e-cycle as your word.

If you are also open to an electric scooter, give it its own search; the two markets have different prices and different papers.

Comparing cycles side by side in one email

Each mail gathers every new listing from one check, so on a busy weekend you might see three cycles in a single message and compare frame size, gears and price at a glance. Your inbox keeps the history; search it later for a brand to see how asking prices moved.

No new cycles, no mail. An unsubscribe link sits at the bottom of each one.

Forward the mail to whoever will ride the cycle, a child heading to college or a partner commuting to work, and let them pick before you message the seller.

Rain, rust and batteries: checks before buying

Humid cities are hard on cycles. Look for rust on the chain, the welds and the brake cables, test the gears through the full range and check the tyres. For an e-cycle, ask how old the battery is and ride it on assist; for an electric scooter that needs registration, ask to see the RC and insurance.

Ask for the original bill, meet in daylight, and pay only when you are standing next to the cycle. Advance payments for courier delivery and requests to scan a QR code or enter your UPI PIN to receive money are classic warning signs.
