Monday, 8 a.m., a new joiner in Hyderabad

Staying safe while renting from afar

Do not transfer a token for a flat you or someone you trust has not seen. Ask who owns it, check a document that shows it, and read the deposit, lock-in and notice terms in the agreement before you sign.

An owner who will only hand over keys after a transfer because they are abroad is a pattern to avoid. If you cannot visit yet, ask a friend or colleague in the city to see the flat on a video call with the owner present, and keep every message.
