Workshop closures and the morning rush for their kit

Good used tools on Divar often come in batches: a contractor who finished a project, a workshop moving out, a retired carpenter selling his bench saw. The fairly priced pieces go to tradesmen who call before lunch, often with a van ready.

Testing a second-hand power tool before you pay

Ask to see it run. Listen to the motor, smell for burnt windings, check the cable and plug, and look for missing guards. For a compressor, check that it holds pressure and the tank is not rusted through; for a welder, ask to strike an arc. Bring the right socket or ask the seller to have power ready.

Ask for the original box or receipt where possible, especially with expensive brands, since stolen tools do surface on classifieds. Pay at the handover, never send a deposit to hold a machine you have not tried, and keep the chat inside Divar.
