Who gets the good tar first?

Ask any teacher in Tehran or Isfahan and the answer is the same: whoever writes to the seller first. A student moving abroad, a player upgrading to a maker’s instrument, a family clearing a late uncle’s room, they all post on Divar, and the sensible prices draw a queue within hours. Checking the site twice a day is not enough when the queue forms in the morning.

With a card in Telegram you see the photo of the soundboard and the asking price while the ad is still fresh. That is usually the difference between trying the instrument and being told someone is already on the way.

Wording a search for setar, santur or guitar

Persian instruments are often listed under several spellings, so a search for one word can miss half the ads. Save two searches if you need to, one with the Persian name and one with a common variant, or search the category alone with a tight price band. For guitars and keyboards, a brand name narrows things well; for pianos, add the word for upright or digital.

If cards start arriving for picks, cases and stands, raise the lowest price a little. If nothing comes for a week, widen the city or the price.

Listening before you pay

Play the instrument, or bring a friend who does. On a string instrument look along the neck for warping, check the joints and the bowl for cracks, and ask whether the skin or strings were replaced recently. On a piano, every key should return, and the pedals should work. Hear it in a quiet room rather than in a stairwell.

Pay only after that, in person. A seller who wants a deposit to keep the instrument for you, or who wants to move the talk out of Divar’s chat to a link, is a reason to step back.

Can I search only for a specific maker?

If sellers write the maker’s name in the title, a search with that name works. Many do not, so a price band in the category is a useful second search.

No. Cards start with ads posted after your first check.

Can I follow Tehran and Karaj together?

Save one search per city. Two or more searches need Starter or Pro.

Does a muted search still arrive?

Yes, the cards come in without a sound and wait in the chat.
