Is a used car seat from a Polish classifieds site safe to buy?

It can be, if you ask the right things. Ask whether the seat was ever in a car during a collision, because even a minor one can weaken the shell. Look for the approval label, R44/04 or R129, and the manufacture date moulded into the plastic. Frayed belts, cracks or a buckle that sticks mean you walk away.

For prams, fold and unfold it, push it across the room, try the brake and listen to the wheels. None of this is visible in a photo, which is why being the first to arrange a viewing matters more than reading every listing.

Warsaw parents, Kraków sellers: paying without the risk

The right pushchair is sometimes three hundred kilometres away. Przesyłka OLX lets you pay through the platform and have it shipped, instead of sending money to a stranger’s account. I do not read Polish well. Does that matter?

The listings stay in Polish as the sellers wrote them, but the photo and price on each card are easy to judge, and the filters only need setting once.

Do you vet sellers or items?
