Who sells good glass on olx.pl, and why it goes quickly

A lot of the best used kit in Poland comes from photographers moving from DSLR to mirrorless. They sell the whole bag at once, priced to clear rather than to squeeze, and the fair-priced fast prime or standard zoom in that bag attracts several messages before the seller has answered the first one.

Whoever replies with a time to meet and an offer to test on the spot usually gets it. A Telegram card in the chat you already read is how you become that reply.

Vintage Helios and Pentacon glass as a side search

Poland has plenty of old manual lenses from East German and Soviet production, the Helios 44 and Pentacon primes among them, often sold with an old film body by someone clearing a relative’s cupboard. Adapted to a mirrorless camera they are cheap character lenses.

They are worth their own search with a low ceiling, muted so the cards arrive without a sound. Check for haze, sticky aperture blades and oil on the blades, and ask whether the M42 thread is clean.

A ten-minute test at the handover in Łódź or Kraków

Bring your own body and a card. Shine a torch through the lens from the back and look for fungus threads, haze or scratches. Turn the zoom and focus rings for play or grinding. Take autofocus shots near and far, and a frame of a white wall at a small aperture to see dust on the sensor or the rear element.

For a camera body, ask for the shutter count and compare the serial number with the box or the receipt. Meet in a public place, test, and pay on the spot.

Buying from another city without a bank transfer
