Who writes to a Kadıköy seller first in May

Spring is when Turkey's bike market wakes up. Bikes that wintered on a balcony get listed while new riders, commuters and parents all look at the same pages. A well-kept mid-range hardtail at a fair price usually goes to one of the first few people who message the seller.

Three questions before you ride across İstanbul for an e-bike

Ask how many charge cycles the battery has, what range it gives today compared with new, and whether the original charger and the battery key are included. A missing charger is a real extra cost, and range is most of what you pay for on an electric bike or scooter.

On the spot, switch the display on and look for error codes, then take a short ride and feel whether the motor assist comes in smoothly without cutting out.

Proof of ownership and the frame number

Stolen bikes do get resold online. Ask for an invoice or other proof of purchase and check the frame number, usually stamped under the bottom bracket, against it. A ground-off number or a fresh repaint with no paperwork is a reason to walk away.

Keep the usual habits too: no deposit or kapora before you have seen the bike, meet somewhere public, and do not pay before a test ride.

Cracks, chain stretch and worn teeth: a five-minute look

Look at the welds, around the head tube and near the bottom bracket in good light. Hairline cracks or paint covering a repair matter far more than scratches, and carbon frames deserve extra care around any impact mark.

Then the drivetrain: a stretched chain, hooked chainring teeth and a worn cassette all mean spending soon. Shift through the gears on the test ride.
