Spring in Sofia: when used bikes move fastest

Bikes in Bulgaria follow the weather. In March and April, and again in early autumn, people sell what they did not ride and buy for the season ahead. A fair-priced e-bike with a healthy battery, a known-brand MTB in the right frame size or a lightweight road bike near Sofia or Plovdiv gets messages quickly, and the seller rarely waits for the tenth one.

An alert in Telegram is how you become one of the first messages instead of the last.

Frame size, motor, battery: wording an e-bike search

The most useful filter for a bike is often not on the site: frame size. Add it to your search words, like L or 54, if sellers in your area write it in titles. For e-bikes, the motor brand and the battery capacity in Wh are the words that separate a real offer from a cheap one. Keep a minimum price so that helmets, locks and children’s bikes stay out.

If a search brings too much, narrow the price or the area on OLX.bg, copy the new link and replace the old one in MXSender.

Hashtags and muting for several bike searches

Each card carries the hashtag of its search, so an MTB hunt and an e-bike hunt can share the chat and still be filtered with one tap. Mute the less urgent search and its cards arrive without a sound. Forward a card to a riding friend if you want a second opinion on the frame or the price.

Before you hand over money for a used bike

Ask for the frame number and check it is not filed off. Look for cracks around welds and carbon joints, spin the wheels, test the brakes and the gears. For an e-bike, ask about battery age and charging cycles, ride it with assistance on, and check that the charger comes with it. A receipt or a story that matches the bike is a good sign.

Be careful with sellers who insist on prepayment for a bike you cannot see, especially when the price is well under similar ads.
