A shortlist for laptop hunters in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad

Decide the job first: coding, design, office work or gaming. Write down the minimum processor, RAM and storage it needs. Pick two or three models that meet it, set a realistic rupee range, and choose the city where you can actually go and test the machine.

Each model becomes its own search. That way every alert mail is about laptops you would genuinely consider, not a mixed pile.

Why a spreadsheet person likes laptop alerts in the inbox

Mails can be filed into a folder, searched by model name and kept. After two weeks you know what a ThinkPad T14 or an M1 Air really sells for in your city, which makes it much easier to spot an ad that is cheap for a reason, or simply cheap.

If a parent or a business partner pays, forwarding one tidy mail with three candidates is easier than sending screenshots.

Red flags in used laptop listings

Very low prices on recent MacBooks, sellers who refuse to show the machine switched on, laptops still locked to an Apple ID or a company account, and requests for an advance through a mobile wallet before meeting. Also be careful with ads that copy stock photos instead of showing the actual unit.

At the meeting, check the battery report, ports, keyboard, screen and charger, and make sure the machine boots to a fresh user account. Pay only on handover.
