A renter’s checklist for Pakistani cities

Commute: how long from the flat to the office in rush hour? Utilities: is there a gas connection, how is the water supply, is there backup for load-shedding? Building: security, parking, a lift if you are above the second floor. Money: rent, maintenance charges, deposit and any agent commission.

Planning a rental hunt from Dubai, Riyadh or Peshawar

Visit the flat, or have someone you trust visit, before you pay anything. Ask to see the owner’s CNIC and proof of ownership, and put rent, deposit, term and repair duties in a written agreement. A landlord who is abroad and wants the advance sent before handing over keys is a classic trap.
