Turn your collecting area into one search
Go to willhaben’s Marktplatz and search for what you collect, in German where sellers use German: Schallplatten Jazz, Augarten Porzellan, Roco H0, Schilling Münzen. Keep to the antiques and collectibles section, set a price cap in euro and a Bundesland if you will collect in person, then put the newest ads on top.

New listings land in your Telegram
New finds arrive as cards

Estate sales and attic boxes: where Austria’s good pieces surface
Dealers know their prices. The pieces collectors talk about tend to come from people clearing a parent’s flat, an inheritance or an attic, who list them with plain titles like old dishes, Opa’s records or box of coins. On willhaben those private sellers are common, especially around Vienna, Graz and Linz.
Such ads rarely stay long. The seller usually hands the lot to whoever writes first, politely, with a concrete pickup time. So beside your precise search, run a second one with everyday words such as Nachlass, Dachbodenfund or Sammlung.
Reading marks, matrices and hallmarks from a photo
Before you get excited, zoom in. On porcelain, look at the base mark and whether it sits under the glaze; Augarten and other Viennese makers are copied. On records, the label and matrix number in the run-out groove reveal the pressing. On silver and coins, hallmarks and mint marks matter, and known fakes exist for popular dates.
Telegram on a laptop shows the same cards as your phone, which makes it easier to enlarge a photo. If the shot is too small to judge, ask the seller for a close-up of the base, back or label.
Paying for fragile things safely
Collecting in person is best: see it, hold it, then pay. If something has to be posted, agree on proper packing and insured shipping, and use the shipping route willhaben itself offers where possible.
Be careful with large prepayments to strangers and with anyone pushing you to a payment link outside willhaben. Words like extremely rare without any proof are a reason to ask questions, not to hurry.
Keeping several collections in one chat
Every card carries the hashtag of its search, so you know at once whether it is the record hunt or the porcelain one. A side interest, say postcards, can be muted: cards keep coming, only without a sound. Spot something a friend collects? Forward the card, photo and link included, or push it into your club’s group.
How often we look, by plan
Free checks one search every 30 minutes. Starter, $5.99, checks five searches every 10 minutes. Pro, $14.99, runs twenty searches with the fastest checks. Telegram is on every plan, and willhaben’s own Suchagent can keep running next to it.
❓Frequently asked questions
Should I search in German or English?
German. Austrian sellers write their ads in German, so the German name of the item finds far more listings.
Will I be sent ads that are already online?
No. Everything on the list when you start counts as known. Only later ads become cards.
Can I follow toys, comics or watches too?
Yes. Any results page you can build on willhaben, from tin toys to wristwatches, works the same way.
How many collecting searches can I run?
One on Free, five on Starter, twenty on Pro.
How do I change a search?
Refine it on willhaben, add the new link as a search, then pause or delete the old one.
Does a muted search still save the ads?
Yes. Muted cards arrive in the chat as usual, just without a notification sound.
