As soon as the lower forest roads around Innsbruck, Schladming or the Salzkammergut are clear, a lot of people go looking for an electric mountain bike at once, and a well-kept one at a sensible price gets several messages the evening it goes online.

Bike theft happens in Austria as everywhere, and expensive bikes are the ones that get resold. Ask for the purchase receipt, the Kaufbeleg, and the frame number, the Rahmennummer, and compare the number on the frame when you meet. A ground-off number, fresh paint or excuses about the receipt mean walk away.

Meet at the seller's address, look at the bike before you pay, and never send money in advance to someone you have not met who promises to ship it.
