The common mistake: one search for every kind of bike

Typing „велосипед“ for the whole of Ukraine with no price limit gives you children’s bikes, exercise bikes, spare wheels and shop stock all mixed together. After a day of that you start ignoring the messages, which defeats the point.

Split the hunt instead. A commuter e-bike in Kyiv, a gravel bike for weekends and a 24-inch bike for your daughter are three searches, each with its own ceiling, and each message then tells you something useful.

Why text is enough for a bike listing

Bike sellers tend to pack the essentials into the title: make, model, wheel diameter, sometimes the frame size and year. A line such as „Giant Talon 2, 27.5, size M“ next to a price already tells you whether to look closer.

The message sits in an ordinary Viber conversation next to family and work chats. For someone who would rather not install yet another app, that is the least effort way to stop checking the site by hand.

Spring sellers and the people who reply first

Bike sales on OLX pick up as soon as the weather warms. A clean mid-range bike at a fair price gets several replies, and the seller usually arranges a viewing with whoever offered a concrete time first. Hearing about the ad soon after it goes up is what puts you in that group.

Before you pay for a used bike in Ukraine

Ask for a receipt or warranty card and check the frame number, usually under the bottom bracket, against it; stolen bikes are a known problem, and a repainted frame or scratched-out number is a clear no. Look for cracks at the welds, worn chainrings, a stretched chain and tired brakes, and take it for a short ride.

For an e-bike, ask the battery capacity in watt-hours, how old it is, roughly how many charge cycles it has done and whether the charger is included. Boxed delivery by Nova Poshta is common; agree on inspection at the branch and cash on delivery rather than paying everything upfront.
