Checklist item one: a title and a price are enough to decide

Photo gear sellers tend to write precise titles, because buyers search by focal length, aperture and mount. A Viber message reading Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 with a price below what you have seen elsewhere tells you to open it now; a vague title with a high price can wait.

Because Viber is already on most phones in Ukraine, there is nothing new to learn. The message sits among your other chats, and the link opens the advert with its full gallery.

Checklist item two: the right mount before the right price

A bargain in the wrong system is no bargain. Canon EF and RF, Nikon F and Z, Sony A and E all look alike in a quick scroll. Adapters exist for some combinations, but autofocus and size change, so put the mount in the search text from the start.

Keep bodies and lenses apart. A listing for a body only and a kit with a zoom attached differ in price, and separate searches make each message easier to judge.

Checklist item three: questions to send before meeting

For a body: the shutter count, which many models show in a service menu or the image data; a photo of a plain wall at a small aperture to reveal sensor dust; whether the box and receipt are still around and the serial number on them matches the camera.

For a lens: a photo taken with a phone torch shining through it from the back. Thread-like lines suggest fungus, an even milky cloud suggests haze. Both mean a strip-down repair, and the price should reflect it.

Checklist item four: testing autofocus at the meet or the branch

In person in Lviv or Odesa, or at a Nova Poshta branch with inspection on receipt, mount the lens, focus on something close and something far several times, listen for grinding, and shoot wide open to check sharpness on the zoomed-in screen. Turn every ring. If a seller insists on full prepayment and no inspection, step back.
