Why does a cheap used AC on OLX India never last until evening?

In April and May, demand for ACs and coolers jumps in every north Indian city. A two-year-old split AC listed at a fair price by someone leaving town gets calls from a dozen families, and the first one to agree a time and bring a technician takes it.

Fridges and washing machines are steadier through the year, but the same rule holds: reasonably priced units from moving sales go to the earliest caller.

What to check on a second-hand appliance

Ask for the bill and the warranty card, the year of purchase and whether the compressor or motor was ever replaced. Run it in front of you: an AC should cool within minutes, a fridge should be cold and quiet, a washer should complete a short cycle without leaks.

For an AC, factor in the cost of uninstalling, gas top-up and reinstalling. Ask whether the copper pipe and stand come with it. A local technician you trust is worth bringing along.

Scams around appliance listings to watch for

Very low prices on new-looking appliances from sellers who cannot meet, claim to be posted elsewhere and ask for an advance for delivery are a familiar pattern. So is a buyer or seller sending a QR code and saying you will receive money by scanning it; scanning always pays out. Pay after the appliance works in front of you.

An AC search and a fridge search side by side in Telegram

Each search adds its own hashtag to its cards, so you can tell the AC hunt from the fridge hunt at a glance. Forward a card to the family group or the technician before you commit.

Mute the less urgent search; its cards still come, just silently. The chat is the same on your phone and on Telegram Desktop.
