Why does an appliance hunt suit an inbox?

Buying a used fridge or washing machine is rarely an impulse. You compare height, capacity, noise and brand, and you probably check with someone at home before calling. An email holds all of that in one place: the photos are large on a laptop, you can star the two best offers and come back to them after work.

Nothing needs installing, and the mail sits in a folder you can search weeks later when you want to remember what a similar Bosch went for.

Spin cycle, door seal, drum bearings

When you visit a washer, ask the seller to run a quick programme with the spin. A loud rumble usually points to worn bearings, and water under the door to a tired seal. Pull the rubber gasket back and look for black mould, then turn the drum by hand and feel for roughness.

For a fridge, arrange for it to be plugged in hours ahead; for an oven, try each mode and the fan. A dishwasher’s filter and spray arms tell you how it was looked after.

Searching only for one exact model can leave your inbox empty for weeks, while a bare word like fridge brings in mini-bars and broken units for parts. A useful middle is the appliance type plus the feature that really matters to you: narrow, built-in, No Frost, with dryer. Set a minimum price as well as a maximum, so parts and accessories drop out.

Built-in and freestanding appliances are best kept as separate searches, since a built-in unit has to match its cabinet. The same goes for power stations and inverters bought for outages; give them their own search.

Warranty cards, receipts and the energy label

Ask early whether the receipt and warranty card survive. Some months of remaining manufacturer warranty make a used machine a far calmer purchase. A photo of the rating plate gives the model and serial, from which the production year can usually be worked out, and the energy label hints at the monthly running cost.

Then add delivery: a cargo taxi, stairs without a lift and a technician to connect water or fit a built-in. Smaller items often come by Nova Poshta, where inspecting at the branch before paying is safer than a full prepayment.
