Discontinued parts and the long wait

An original trim strip for an older Lanos or a control unit nobody manufactures any more is not something you find on a Tuesday afternoon by searching harder. It turns up when someone breaks a donor car, and that might be next week or in four months.

Being early still helps when the price is fair, because a sensible offer on a rare part draws several buyers and sellers usually deal with whoever wrote first. But for a part like this, the free plan, one search checked every thirty minutes, is honestly enough for most people.

Filing the offers by car

Because every alert is a normal email, you can label it by vehicle, star the ones you asked about and search the inbox by part number. After a few weeks you have a small price history: what the same headlight went for in Lviv, in Dnipro, from a yard, from a private seller.

That history is the quickest way to tell whether a new offer is fair, too cheap to be what it claims, or simply optimistic.

Original or aftermarket, and which year

Ask for a photo of the stamping or the label on the part. The carmaker’s logo and a factory number on the housing usually settle whether a part sold as original really is. Ask, too, which car it came from and that car’s year, because a facelift often moves a connector or a bracket.

On payment, cash on delivery through Nova Poshta lets you look the parcel over at the branch before handing money over. With an unknown seller that is a quieter choice than a full advance transfer.
