A Kharkiv commuter shopping for an e-bike between meetings

Picture someone who wants an e-bike for the ride to the office but has no time to scroll classifieds at lunch. Their inbox, however, is open all day. A mail with three new e-bikes, each with a photo and price, gets read between calls, and the promising one gets a message to the seller before the evening.

That is the case email suits best: a considered purchase, compared carefully, by someone who already lives in their mail.

Questions to send an e-bike seller first

The battery decides much of an e-bike’s value. Ask its capacity in watt-hours, its age, roughly how many charge cycles it has done, and whether the original charger is included. Ask too whether the motor is a factory mid-drive or a hub-motor conversion, and what range the seller actually gets now.

Those answers help you rank the bikes in your inbox before you travel to see any of them.

Paperwork, frame checks and the Nova Poshta box

Bike theft is common, so ask for a receipt or warranty card and photograph the frame number, usually under the bottom bracket. A repaint, a ground-off number or a vague story about where the bike came from are reasons to pass.

In person, check welds and the head tube for cracks, look at chain wear and the teeth on the cassette and chainrings, test the brakes and ride it. Plenty of bikes travel boxed by Nova Poshta; insist on inspecting at the branch and paying on receipt, not on a full prepayment.
