A shortlist for a whole flat in Almaty

Furnishing a rented or newly bought flat is a project of several weeks: a bed first, then a table, a wardrobe, maybe a kitchen set. Mail is a good fit for that pace. You can keep each item’s mails in its own folder, search for a brand or a colour, and compare what similar pieces cost in Almaty, Astana or your own town before you decide.

One search per item keeps each mail short enough to read on the bus.

What a fair price looks like on Kazakh furniture ads

Prices for the same kind of sofa vary widely depending on brand, age and how urgently the owner is moving. After a few weeks of mails you will see the range for yourself, and an underpriced piece stands out. When it does, do not wait for the weekend: write to the seller the same day, because good furniture at a moving-out price rarely lasts.

Remember to add transport and, for flat-pack items, the time to take them apart and rebuild them.

Before the van arrives: checks for used furniture

See the piece in person if you can. Open every drawer, sit on the sofa, look under cushions and along seams for stains, damage or insects, and check that cabinet doors close straight. Ask if all screws and fittings are included for anything that must be dismantled.

Pay when you collect. A seller who asks for an advance by bank transfer to reserve an item you have not seen, or who suddenly offers delivery through a link outside OLX, is a reason to stop and look elsewhere.

When the furniture mail lands in spam

Your provider decides where mail from a new sender goes. After the first match, look in spam or promotions, mark the message as wanted and add the sender to your contacts.
