Shutter count, fungus and other words to look for
Camera listings speak their own language. For a body, the shutter count tells you how much it has been used; ask for it if the seller has not given it. For lenses, look for mentions of fungus, haze, scratches on the front element or a sticky aperture, and ask for photos with a light shining through the glass.
Words like „mint“ and „like new“ are the seller’s opinion. A photo of the actual item from several angles is worth more than any adjective.
Why a camera hunt works well in an inbox
Buying a lens is a comparing job: two copies of the same 70-200 at different prices, one with the hood and caps, one without. An email per check puts the new listings next to each other, and you can keep the mails in a folder until you decide. Forward one to a friend who shoots the same system.
Nothing to install, and a search that finds nothing stays silent. Free and Starter send to one address; Pro sends to up to three.
Cross-border camera gear: region, warranty, duties
Many sellers on ebay.com are abroad, and camera gear travels well. Still, check a few things. A manufacturer’s warranty may not transfer or may not cover your country. Some bodies are sold with menus or chargers made for another region. Shipping can be insured or not, and a parcel crossing a border may bring import duties or VAT on arrival.
Read the seller’s feedback and the return policy, and pay through eBay so its buyer protection applies.
Plans, checks and the first mail
Free checks one search every 30 minutes. Starter, $5.99, checks five every 10 minutes, enough for a body and a few lenses. Pro, $14.99, checks twenty searches with the fastest checks we offer.
Your mail provider decides where a new sender goes, so look in spam after the first match, mark the mail as wanted and add the sender to contacts. Each mail ends with an unsubscribe link.
❓Frequently asked questions
Can I follow one lens across several mounts?
Yes, either as one eBay search that includes them or as separate searches if your plan has room.
Will I know if an auction is about to end?
No. The email reports new listings. Watching and bidding stay on eBay.
Does every listing come with a photo?
The photo is included when the seller provides one, which is the case for most camera listings.
Can I add film cameras to the same search?
If the eBay search covers them, yes. A separate search often keeps film and digital easier to read.
What if I start getting too many emails?
Lower the price ceiling or narrow the model on eBay, then replace the link in MXSender.
