Why the cheapest iPhone in the results is often the wrong one

Scroll any iPhone search and the lowest prices are usually phones that are locked to a carrier, sold for parts, or have iCloud activation still on. Titles hint at it with words like „locked“, „read description“ or „no Face ID“. An email with several new listings at once makes it easy to compare and spot the one that is cheap for a good reason, not a bad one.

Set your filters to unlocked and working condition from the start, and the mails will mostly hold phones you could really buy.

Five things to confirm before buying a used iPhone

Ask the seller to confirm the phone is signed out of iCloud and Find My is off; without that it cannot be set up as yours. Ask for the battery health percentage from Settings. Check whether the screen or battery has been replaced, since Apple shows a parts history on recent models. Make sure it is unlocked if you want to use your own SIM. And ask whether it has the original box or a receipt.

A seller who answers all five clearly is usually a good one to buy from.

Buying a phone from another country

Some iPhone models differ by region, for example in SIM support, so read the model details. Shipping a phone is cheap, but a parcel crossing a border may bring import duties or VAT. Check the seller’s feedback and return policy, and pay through eBay so its buyer protection covers the purchase. A request to pay outside eBay, by bank transfer or a gift card, is a clear signal to stop.
