Used MacBook and laptop deals on eBay by email

Write down the chip, memory, storage and keyboard you need, turn that list into one eBay search, and get an email whenever a laptop that fits it is listed.

3 steps

Set up in a minute

  1. Search on eBay, sort by newest

Turn your spec list into eBay filters

Under Computers/Tablets & Networking, open Laptops & Netbooks and pick the brand. Use the filters for processor or chip, RAM, storage, screen size and condition, set a price ceiling, and limit item location or ships-to to places that can reach you. Sort by Newly listed and copy the address.

  3. New listings land in your inbox

    Compare candidates in one mail

When a check finds new laptops, one mail lists them all with title, price, a link to each eBay page and a photo when the seller supplied one. If nothing new appears, nothing is sent.

A checklist for a second-hand MacBook from eBay

Activation Lock first: ask the seller to confirm the Mac is signed out of their Apple ID and erased, and be wary of any listing that mentions iCloud lock, parts only or a forgotten password. Then the battery: a cycle count and the condition shown in system settings tell you more than „good battery“ in a title.

Next, the exact model. Two MacBook Pros with the same screen size can be years apart, so ask for the model identifier or the chip name. Finally the keyboard layout: a US layout and a UK or German one look alike in a small photo, and swapping keys later is not trivial.

Windows laptops and the business-line sweet spot

Ex-office ThinkPads, Latitudes and EliteBooks come off leases in batches and are often listed refurbished with fresh storage. They are sturdy, repairable and priced well under a new consumer laptop. A search per model family, with a RAM floor, keeps the mails relevant.

Ask about the charger, the battery health and whether a Windows licence is included, and check that the BIOS is not password-locked by the previous company.

Shipping a laptop across borders

eBay.com lists sellers from many countries. Read the item location and the shipping cost to your country, and allow for import duties or VAT that may be charged on arrival. Check the seller’s feedback and the return policy; eBay runs buyer protection for purchases that go wrong, with terms worth reading before you pay.

Warranty from the original country may not apply where you live, so treat a remaining warranty as a bonus rather than a reason to buy.

Keeping laptop mails tidy

Laptops are compared, not grabbed. A mail per check suits that: archive it into a folder, search it later by chip name, and see what similar machines were listed at over a few weeks.

Your mail provider decides where alerts land. After the first match, check spam or tabs like Promotions, mark the mail as wanted and add the sender to contacts. Every mail carries an unsubscribe link.

Free covers one search checked every 30 minutes and one address; Starter, $5.99, five searches every 10 minutes and one address; Pro, $14.99, twenty searches with the fastest checks and three addresses.

❓Frequently asked questions

Can MXSender tell me if a MacBook is iCloud locked?

No. The mail shows what the listing shows; ask the seller and read the description before you buy.

I want a MacBook Air or a ThinkPad, whichever comes first. One search or two?

Two. Each gets its own filters and stays readable; Free covers one, Starter five.

Are refurbished listings included?

If your eBay search includes refurbished in its condition filter, yes; the mail follows the search.

Does the alert come when a laptop’s price drops?

No. You hear about new listings, not edits to old ones.

Can I stop the mails for a while?

Yes. Pause the search on the website or in the bot, or use the unsubscribe link in any mail.
