The search that floods your Viber, and the one that does not

A common first try is „all MPVs in Jabodetabek under Rp200 juta“. It sounds sensible and it fills the chat with dozens of cars you would never buy, from every year and in every condition. After two days you start ignoring the messages, and that is when the right one slips by.

Tighter works better: one model, a five-year window, an honest price cap, a city you can reach. Two or three such searches beat one wide one, and each message becomes worth reading.

A car from a single line of text

Without a photo, the title does the work. Sellers usually write the model, year and gearbox, sometimes the colour and the plate area. That is enough to say no to most cars and yes to a few. When the line fits, open the link, look at every photo, and if it still looks right, call.

Viewing a used car in Indonesia without regrets

Meet in daylight, ideally where the car is registered. Compare the frame and engine numbers with the STNK and BPKB, ask about outstanding leasing payments and service history, and look for signs of flood water under the carpets. Have a mechanic you trust drive it.

A seller who wants a deposit by transfer before you have seen the car, or who claims to be away and will send it by courier, is a reason to move on.

Before you drive out, ask for a photo of the STNK with personal details covered and the date the yearly tax was last paid. A seller who will not share even that is rarely worth the trip.
