Whole households for sale when people move abroad

Many ads on olx.ba come from people leaving for work in Germany, Austria or Ireland, or from relatives emptying a parent’s flat. They want everything gone by a date, so prices are low and the first serious buyer who can collect wins.

Solid-wood wardrobes and dining sets made by Bosnian workshops turn up this way, often at a fraction of a new price.

Measure first, then search

The most common furniture regret is a sofa that does not fit the stairwell. Note the width of your doors and of the stairs in an older Sarajevo building before you build the search, and ask the seller for dimensions in the first message.

Adding a size word such as „mala“ or the seat count to your search reduces the cards you cannot use.

Also think about the room before the style: a corner sofa for a small Sarajevo living room needs a left or right orientation, and that detail belongs in your first question to the seller, not after you have booked the van.

Collecting a wardrobe from the fourth floor

Ask whether the piece is dismantled, whether there is a lift, and whether the seller will help carry. Book a van before you agree a time. Pay when the furniture is in front of you and you have checked for damp, broken mechanisms and pets’ marks.

Any request to pay a deposit to „reserve“ a piece you have not seen is a reason to wait for the next one.
