Picture it: half past two, the baby finally drinking, the phone in your other hand. A card appears in Telegram showing a grey two-in-one pram, one owner, carrycot and raincover included, a fair price in hryvnias, pickup across town. You tap the button, read the description and write to the seller before you put the phone down.

That is the whole idea. Good used baby gear in Ukraine tends to be outgrown rather than worn out, so it is listed in decent condition and priced well below the shop. Other parents want the same model, and the seller usually goes with whoever asked first and sounded ready to collect.

Hashtags that keep the stroller hunt apart from the cot hunt

Most families look for several things at once: a pushchair now, a bigger car seat in a few months, a high chair soon after. Make a separate OLX search for each and send all of them to the same chat. Every card carries the hashtag of its search, so you can scroll back through only the cots or only the car seats.

Clothes bundles are a good candidate for a silent search. Type the next size into the query, for example a size 92 bundle, and let those cards arrive without a sound. They wait in the chat until you have a quiet minute, on your phone or on the desktop app.

Wheels, brakes and the fold: testing a pre-loved pram

Push the stroller along the pavement and listen. The wheels should roll straight without wobbling, the brake should hold on a slope and the handle should not rattle. Fold and unfold it twice yourself rather than watching the seller do it. Check the harness buckles and that the canopy locks open.

Covers can almost always be removed and washed, so a stain is less important than a cracked frame or a bent axle. Ask which accessories come with it, since a cup holder or footmuff bought separately adds up.

Car seats are the one item to be strict about

Ask directly whether the seat was ever in a car during a crash, even a minor one. Look for the approval label, usually ECE R44/04 or R129, and the manufacturing date moulded into the shell; makers state how long a seat is meant to stay in use. Walk away from a seat with missing straps, no label or a story that keeps changing.
